Why Is My USB Drive 128GB but Showing 32GB

Help! My flash drive shows 32GB storage instead of 128 GB. I opened Disk Management, and it showed a 32 GB partition and a blank partition. I can't expand the partition. Any ideas? Thanks!

There are a few reasons why your 128GB USB drive only shows 32GB on your PC:

  • The USB drive is formatted as FAT32.
  • Invalid partition on your USB drive.
  • It's a Windows installation/recovery drive.

To make your USB drive show the correct capacity, you can first try formatting it to NTFS if it's FAT32 formatted. You can use EaseUS Partition Master Free to do the job so that the data on your USB drive won't get lost.

It offers an advanced feature that can help you format a disk from FAT32 to NTFS without losing data. Here's how:

Step 1. Insert your USB drive and launch EaseUS Partition Master.

Step 2. Right-click on the partition on your USB drive and choose "Advanced" > "FAT to NTFS."

Step 3. Confirm the message and start the process.

After this, you can use Disk Management to extend the partition so that it can show its full storage capacity. Follow the steps below:

Step 1. Search for and open Disk Management from the Windows search bar.

Step 2. Right-click on the target partition and choose "Extend Volume."

Step 3. Follow the wizard to finish the process.

Then, the USB drive will show 128GB on your computer, and you are allowed to make full use of it.
