How to Recover Old Files from Formatted Laptop Using Software

Now I have this old family laptop from 2009, and I used to draw a lot of stuff on it, making animation videos and stuff like that, but at the time, this laptop was later formatted, and all that old work was lost. It's not extremely important to work, but it had a lot of emotional value to me, and I wondered if it was still possible to recover it even after all that.

It is possible to recover old files from formatted laptops, SD cards, and other devices. Windows has a built-in backup and restore option; if you don't have a backup on your external hard drive, you should try to find backups in Windows File History. You can go to the System & Security menu, choose File History, and restore personal files from the sidebar. Then you can check whether your deleted files are in the backups. If you find old files, click the green 'Recover' button to perform format recovery.

If it doesn't work, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard can help you recover lost screenshots, films, music, and emails from your formatted laptop after the formatting.

To guarantee a high data recovery chance, install EaseUS data recovery software on another disk instead of the formatted one. And follow the steps below to recover old files from your formatted laptop:

Step 1. Install EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard. Click the hard drive partition you've formatted and click the 'Scan' option.

Step 2. This formatted partition recovery software will start scanning. After that, you can click 'Filter' to filter a specific file type to find the old files you need quickly. Or click on search files or folders to select the data you want to recover.

Step 3. Preview the scanned files. Then, select the ones that you wish to recover and click 'Recover'. Select a new location to store the files and click 'OK'.

It's suggested to keep an excellent backup habit of avoiding data loss again. Follow the steps below for a system backup:

  • Select 'Start' and then select 'Settings'.
  • Click 'Update & Security'.
  • Click 'Backup'.
  • Add a drive, and choose an external or network location for your backups.
