Why Can't I Uninstall Dropbox

I was trying to remove Dropbox from my computer, but I can't seem to do it. I've tried Control Panel, but I get a message asking if I want to update it instead. I also tried MS Config but also didn't seem to work. Can someone please tell me how to get Dropbox off my computer? Thank you!

There are a few common reasons why Dropbox may fail to uninstall properly:

  • Dropbox is still running in the background.
  • Some files or folders related to Dropbox are being used by other processes.
  • You don't have permission to remove certain Dropbox files or registry entries.

To completely uninstall Dropbox from your PC, follow the instructions:

Step 1. Press "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "Esc" to open Task Manager. Then, end any processes related to Dropbox.

Step 2. Run the DropboxUninstaller.exe file as an administrator from the Dropbox installation folder. (Usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Client)

Step 3. Press "Windows" + "R" to open the Run dialog box. Enter the followings and delete Dropbox folders from the pop-up location window one by one.

  • %PROGRAMFILES%
  • %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%
  • %APPDATA%
  • %LOCALAPPDATA%

However, if you have trouble uninstalling Dropbox using the method above, you can resort to third-party app uninstall software like EaseUS Todo PCTrans. This tool can help you uninstall Dropbox automatically.

Below are the steps:

Step 1. Open EaseUS Todo PCTrans and hit "Start" in the "App Management" tab.

Step 2. Find Dropbox from the app list and hit "Uninstall" to uninstall it.
