Why Does My USB 3 File Transfer Run Slow on Windows 10 - Help

Hello, everyone. I'm using an external drive with a USB 3.0 port to transfer files from my Windows 10 personal laptop to my work desktop. I only get about 87 MB/s to 104 MB/s at maximum speed transfer. I don't think it's a problem with the external drive. Why is the USB 3 file transfer so slow? Can I speed it up? Is there a quicker way? Any help?

Hi, I'm here to help you. In an ideal situation, a USB 3.0 on Windows should have a file transfer speed of 100 MB/s to 200 MB/s. Slow transfer speed can be frustrating, and it can be caused by several factors. The reading speed of the source drive on your personal laptop, the transfer speed of the USB port, and the writing speed of your external drive can affect the USB 3.0 transfer speed. Also, if you transfer files in large sizes, it is more likely to take longer.

If you are looking for a faster way of file transfer, I can recommend a data migration tool for you. You don't need to go through the tedious process of copying and pasting files to move them. Instead, all you need to do is download the tool called EaseUS Todo PCTrans, and select the files you want to transfer. It has a File Sharing feature, which allows you to move files in large sizes within a few clicks. I found this tool extremely helpful in large file transfer between computers. It offers a quick speed and safe transfer without data loss.

You can follow the steps to transfer large files between computers:

Step 1. Launch EaseUS Todo PCTrans on both devices. Go to the File Sharing section. Click "Select".

Step 2. Put the two computers under the same network. Choose the target PC, click "Add PC," and enter the other PC's connection code.

Step 3. Drag and drop the large files you want to transfer. Then, you will see it in the Receive lists on your work desktop.

Simple and quick, you will have a smooth process of file transfer from your laptop to your desktop. Compared to using a USB, using EaseUS Todo PCTrans can save you considerable time and energy.
