Convert Is Not Available for NTFS Drives - How to Fix

I was trying to convert one of my external hard drives from NTFS to FAT32 in CMD. However, after inputting convert e: /fs:fat32, a message saying 'CONVERT is not available for NTFS drives' showed up, and it failed to convert the drive. Can someone help me with this? Thanks!

The Windows convert command only works for converting FAT32 to NTFS, not the other way around. This is because converting from NTFS to FAT32 is a more complex process that can potentially result in data loss.

Therefore, you can only do this either by formatting the drive (data loss) or using a third-party tool like EaseUS Partition Master Free.

Since you plan to use the conversion command from the beginning, here I'll only show you how to convert NTFS to FAT32 without losing data via EaseUS Partition Master.

Step 1. Connect your external disk to your computer.

Step 2. Open EaseUS Partition Master and right-click on the target drive.

Step 3. Select "Advanced" > "NTFS to FAT."

Step 4. Check the confirmation and execute the task.
