The short answer is 2️⃣: one with your computer and a remote one somewhere else. This is because having all your data in just one location leaves them vulnerable to theft, flooding, fire, electrical problems, etc.

In addition, according to the 3-2-1 backup rule, the ideal backup solution is 3 copies in at least 2 locations. That is to say; you should store your backups in different locations.

You could also use a Cloud backup, but I wouldn't suggest using it as your only backup plan. It is especially not a good idea if your data is important, confidential, etc., such as financial data or work you don't want others to steal.

You are entrusting your data to someone else to protect for you because the Cloud is merely another person's "computer". This means that person will never hold your data in the same regard as you do because they didn't do the same amount of work to obtain it.

Whether you want to back up your data to external drives or Cloud, you can use EaseUS Todo Backup to help you.

EaseUS Todo Backup is a multi-functional, easy-to-use backup and restore program which can help you back up almost everything on your computer. It can help you automatically back up files, systems, computer apps, etc., and back up multiple drives simultaneously.

In addition, you can use it to create various backup modes, including full, incremental, and differential backups. Lastly, it offers 250G free Cloud storage to back up your files to Cloud.

In short, you should have at least 2 external hard drives for backup, and you can use professional backup software like EaseUS Todo Backup to help you back up to external drives.
