I bought a new m.2 SSD (1tB). I want to back up all the files on a smaller m.2 SSD (256gB) to my internal SATA HDD(1TB) with Clonezilla, and then copy them from the HDD to the new 1TB M.2 SSD. Can I use Clonezilla to back up a portion of my HDD into an SSD? Would I need to copy everything and delete the duplicate files? Would this cause any trouble? Thanks for the help.

Yes, you can back up a portion of your HDD into an SSD by using Clonezilla, a partition and disk cloning software. Clonezilla supports moving data from an HDD to an SSD or an SSD to an HDD. It can also help clone the whole or partitioned HDD to an SSD. You don't need to delete duplicate files, and there won't be any issues.
First, you can create a new partition on the HDD to copy the data you want. Then, you can transfer the HDD partition to the new M.2 SSD via disk cloning tools, such as Clonezilla, Acronis True Image, and EaseUS Disk Copy.
Besides the complicated steps above, you can directly clone M.2 to M.2 SSD without losing data or reinstalling OS using disk cloning software like EaseUS Disk Copy. This reliable and efficient cloning tool supports cloning SSD partitions to new M.2 SSD easily without re-creating partitions manually. Moreover, you can also create a bootable disk to boot your computer easily.
Here are the detailed steps:
From above, you can transfer an SSD to a new SSD hassle-free without worrying about data loss or reinstalling the system. The whole process is also straightforward and efficient.
