Can I Convert MBR to GPT Without Any OS?

I just got a new laptop without any OS. When I go to Windows Installer and try to create a new partition from unallocated space, the installer cannot create the partition. It shows the message: Windows cannot install on the MBR. On EFI systems, Windows can only install on a GPT partition. How can I convert MBR to GPT without any OS?

Yes, you can convert your disk to GPT without Any OS. Moving programs can be complicated if you use an incorrect or unreasonable method, which might cause data damage or loss. However, a new computer doesn't need to worry about this since no data exists. This post will introduce two reliable ways to help you convert MBR disk to GPT disk. Continue to read and find more details.

The best way is to use the professional disk conversion tool - EaseUS Partition Master, which can perfectly meet your demand of changing MBR to GPT with simple steps. In addition, EaseUS Partition Master can also apply to convert GPT to MBR without wiping data.

How to convert MBR to GPT using EaseUS Partition Master:

Step 1. Launch EaseUS Partition Master on your PC and open it.

Step 2. Find the "Disk Converter" tool on the left side and click "Convert MBR to GPT," and select "Next."

Step 3. Find the wanted MBR disk in the options, and click "Convert" to convert.

After the conversion process, your system disk should become GPT. Since your boot mode is already UEFI, you don't need to change it. The second method is to use Dispart, which is complicated and will delete all your partitions during conversion. Therefore, if there is essential data on your MBR disk, consider data backup before attempting the process.

Here is how to do so:

Step 1. Type cmd in the search window, right-click "Command Prompt," and choose "Run as administrator."

Step 2. Enter the following command lines and hit "Enter" after each:

  • diskpart
  • list disk
  • select disk 2 (Replace 2 with your MBR disk number.)
  • clean
  • convert gpt

Step 3. Type exit when the conversion process is finished.
