What Causes Error Code 0xc0000098 in Computer System Boot Process?

Basically, my computer has trouble booting up, and it says BCD Error code 0xc0000098. I have tried accessing the Recovery Environment but failed. It just comes with another black screen and then back to the blue screen. What exactly is the source of this issue? Is there any practical way to resolve this? Any help will be appreciated!

One of the most common causes is a missing OS entry in the Windows Boot Configuration Data file.

Some users reported that they encountered Windows boot error 0xc0000098 after cloning the operating system, upgrading to Windows 11/10, or some other cases. These can all be attributed to the BCD being missing or corrupted.

To fix the startup problem caused by BCD-related errors, you should rebuild the BCD. Since you are unable to access the Recovery Environment, you need bootable media and reliable software like EaseUS Partition Master Professional to fix the startup problem caused by BCD-related errors.

Windows 11/10/8/7100% Secure

This software has recently released a new feature, Boot Repair, specifically designed to fix a series of issues that prevent your computer from starting up, including BCD errors. Now, follow the steps to fix the problem.

Before you start the process, a Windows bootable media (USB drive/CD/DVD) is required to allow you to enter the problematic computer.

Stage 1. Create a bootable media.

Step 1. Connect the external drive/USB to a working computer and run EaseUS Partition Master.

Step 2. Go to "Bootable Media > Create bootable media" and select your device. Then, click "Create".

Stage 2. Rebuild BCD with EaseUS Partition Master.

Step 1. Connect your bootable drive to the problematic computer and press and hold "F2/Del" to enter the BIOS when booting up. Then, modify the WinPE bootable drive as the boot drive and press "F10" to exit.

Step 2. Reboot the computer and open EaseUS Partition Master. Navigate to "Toolkit > Boot Repair".

Step 3. Choose the system that needs repair and click "Repair". Then, click "OK" after the process.

You should change the boot order back to the original drive after the boot repair procedure. Then, restart your computer and check whether you can log in as usual.

If you encounter other startup issues, you can always resort to EaseUS Partition Master, which can resolve most of the boot-up problems.
