How to Recover a File Saved as a CSV Instead of an XLS

I have spent quite a long time on the table sheets; however, I have saved this file wrongly as a CSV instead of an XLS and lost some vital information. I would like to know if there are some solutions for settling this issue and recovering my file.

If you have accidentally saved your file as a CSV instead of an XLS, you can recover your file by installing EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard software, designed to help users with Excel files recovery, PDF recovery, formatted recovery, deleted file recovery, OS crash recovery, RAW partition recovery, etc.

To recover your Excel by using EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard software, you only need 3 steps:

Step 1. Select the location where your file is stored and click 'Scan'.

Step 2. If quickly locating the Excel file is needed, click 'Documents' on the left panel and choose 'Excel', and don't forget to click 'Preview' to check if it is the wanted file.

Step 3. Select the waned Excel file, click 'Recover', and then save the Excel file to another location.

Or you can recover your file from the previous version. Here are the steps:

Step 1. Right-click on the CSV file and select 'Properties'.

Step 2. Go to previous versions, find and choose the latest or last version before Excel is saved, and click 'Restore'. Then you can restore your Excel file XLS without losing any saved data.

The third solution you can apply is to recover temporary Excel files through the AutoRecover feature, which will save the Excel files as temp files to a specific location in Windows C drive.

Step 1. Follow the temp file folder location and go for Excel temp files.

  • For Windows 7 users: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\
  • For Windows 8/10 users: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\UnsavedFiles\
  • For Windows 11 users: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\

Step 2. Find and locate the correct Excel temp file by date, then copy and save the wanted file to another safe spot by changing the extension.
