Is It Safe to Upgrade to Windows 11 Without Backup?

I'm planning to upgrade my computer from Windows 10 to Windows 11. My friends told me to back up my files before doing so. But it's too complex to back up stuff. Can someone tell me if it is safe to upgrade to Windows 11 without backup? Thanks!

It is safe to upgrade to Windows 11 without backup if you do it properly.

You will not lose anything if you select "Keep personal files and apps" during the Windows Setup process. If the option is not selected, there is a high risk of data loss. You can get the Windows 11 free upgrade in the Windows 10 system settings or download the Windows 11 ISO for upgrading. Each way will not erase your personal data, and every app and software will remain as usual.

However, there is something will be lost when you upgrade to Windows 11.

  • Quick Update
  • Keyboard with Touch
  • News & Interests
  • Math Input Panel
  • Desktop Wallpaper
  • Quick Status
  • Wallet
  • Tablet Mode…

These features will be removed in Windows 11. They will be replaced by other better functionalities that can improve user experience on Windows 11.

However, it is always highly recommended to back up significant data before upgrading your operating system since there could be unexpected events that might cause data loss. You can turn to File History, provided by Microsoft, or a third-party tool like EaseUS Todo Backup for help.

EaseUS Todo Backup has the ability to back up various data like files, systems, disk, and app data, while File History only supports limited files. You can also use it to create a scheduled backup, differential and incremental backup, and system image for different situations.
