Can I Create Another Partition Without Losing Data for Installing Windows 7 Along With Windows 10?

I like Windows 7, but I also want to keep Windows 10, which I have already installed after upgrading from Windows 8.1. The question is can I install Windows 7 after installing Windows 10? After research, I know I can install Windows 10 after installing Win 7, but what about the opposite? How can I create another partition without losing data?

According to what you said, you want to run Windows 7 while you don't want to give up the current Windows 10. The best solution is to dual-boot Windows 7 with Windows 10. Using a new hard drive for the new operating system is the simplest and safest approach to dual boot. However, if your hard drive is big enough at size, you can also partition it to make room for Windows 7. Keep reading and learn more about creating a new partition for another OS.

Before going further, you have to pick the right tool to set dual boot on one drive without affecting the data of current partitions. Don't worry. You can rely on EaseUS Partition Master, an all-in-one partition manager that supports creating a new primary partition on the drive without data loss. Install this software and follow the tips below to add a primary partition for Windows 7:

Notification: In most cases, you won't lose your data while the drive is being partitioned, but creating backups first is always the safest preaction.

Step 1. Run EaseUS Partition Master and click "Partition Manager" to check if your drive has unallocated space:

  • If your hard drive has no unallocated space, start from step 2.
  • If your hard drive already has unallocated space, skip to step 4.

Step 2. Right-click a partition with the most significant free space to choose "Resize/Move."

Step 3. Click "OK" after dragging the right or left end of the partition to reduce the partition and make room for the new partition.

Step 4. Right-click the unallocated space to choose "Create."

(Verify the drive letter, partition label, file system, and other advanced options, including the partition size. Select "OK.")

Step 5. Start partitioning by clicking "Execute 1 Task" and "Apply."

Now, you have a new primary partition on the Windows 10 pre-installed disk. To have dual-boot, you need instructions on how to set up Windows 7 on the new primary partition:

In addition, you can use EasyBCD or Bootice to add two separate boot options to the two systems after installation, and then you can see both of them when you boot up.
