How to Use Rescuezilla for Disk Cloning on Windows

Rescuezilla provides users with a reliable and efficient solution for disk cloning, Windows backup, data recovery, and rescue operations. Here, we will show you how to use Rescuezilla to clone your OS hard drive for free.

 What You'll Need:
1️⃣PC (Intel/AMD)
2️⃣USB drive (It will be completely erased to hold Rescuezilla ISO)
3️⃣Another drive with enough capacity to hold data on the old one.
4️⃣An adapter to connect the new disk if your computer has only one slot.

Step 1. Download the latest live image. Go to the Rescuezilla official website to download the latest software version.

Step 2. Write the ISO image to a USB drive. You can use Rufus or balenaEtcher to put the ISO on the USB flash drive. (Note: This will erase data on the USB stick.)

Step 3. Reboot your computer. After writing the Rescuezilla ISO to the USB, you must restart your PC with the USB inserted to use Rescuezilla. To boot from the USB, you need to go to BIOS settings by repeatedly pressing F8 or F12 while your computer starts. Then, change the boot order to boot from the USB drive. Then, save changes, exit BIOS, and restart your computer.

Step 4. Choose Clone option in the Welcome screen. Once your computer restarts, Rescuezilla will launch automatically. Select your language, click Clone, and hit Next.

Rescuezilla Alternative Free Download for Disk Cloning

Undoubtedly, Rescuezilla is much easier to use than Clonezilla. However, it still leaves much to be desired because you will need a USB drive to run this software, and the functions to clone a disk can only meet basic needs. Most importantly, the steps to clone a disk are complicated and thus unsuitable for beginners. To clone a hard drive easily and quickly, you will need professional disk cloning software like EaseUS Disk Copy.

select the destination disk

Step 3. Check the disk layout of the two disks. You can manage the disk layout of the destination disk by selecting "Autofit the disk", "Copy as the source" or "Edit disk layout".

click ok when a warning message appears
  • "Autofit the disk" makes some changes by default on the destination disk layout so that it can work at its best status.
  • "Copy as the source"does not change anything on destination disk and the layout is the same as source disk.
  • "Edit disk layout" allows you to manually resize/move partition layout on this destination disk.

Tick the "Check the option if the target is SSD" option to put your SSD in its best performance.

A message now appears, warning you that data will be lost. Please confirm this message by clicking "OK" and then click "Next".
